a guy murdered, a police detective in a coma, all over a yellow diamond. it's all very intricate; there's the stuff that's clear, and then there are those pieces of this diabolical puzzle that are still hidden. the characters are a lot of fun, especially Victoria--I'm not quite sure she is free of nasty secrets. but I dunno. I wish the new cop on the case a lot of luck, because the intrepid smart-dresser he has replaced may not wake up from a bullet to the head (again, coma). last thing: the style of this book is exactly my thang. kind of like Hitchcock's Family Plot (super-undervalued), but with more rich people, and less con artists and kidnappers. so far.
