a particular situation--oh, let me call it "the Alina/Beatriz shuffle"--has got to be one of the wildest, most unpredictable plot twists I've encountered in a Mystery novel. this is a long novel--I think some reviews hint maybe too long, as well as a bit meandering--but I just know that when I'm reading this, nothing else matters. I'm glued, until I have to stop for some pesky real life. and then I get back to it. it's not perfect, but it's doing a good impression.
