I'm thrilled with this! it's excellent. the last several books I've tried because they are mentioned at the back of Horror: The 100 Best Books, in a Further Recommendations section, have not been that impressive, but this marks a major turnaround. I'm sad for Margaret, but obviously her fate is going to affect all events that follow. the...swampiness of the tale--rattlesnakes, quicksand, storm-flooded rivers--is already scary, but of course the man in the mask is the worst. anyway, I'm a bit tired, and I read a whole graphic novel this morning, so I'll take a break till tomorrow. once I'm recharged, I'll be anxious to get back to this one.
