I never would have guessed that this would be this superb; but then I had reasons to doubt. the one other book I read by this guy was rather average--but then it was billed as a "melodrama' not a Crime novel. plus, the author has obviously fallen out of modern public perception. but, as I'm learning more and more, just because it faded into obscurity for ages, doesn't mean it isn't worth a try. well, at least this one is! this is an excellent Noir novel, where three cops are in for a night the survivor or survivors will not forget, as soon as one of them contemplates stealing from a bank robber instead of just taking him in. it's all gone wrong. it's all a delicious read.
