Thus Bad Begins - Javier Marías

a great start: I have been transported back to the Madrid of 1980, which seems to be a very interesting time in Spain, Franco having departed this world in 1975. the two characters I've been dealing with so far--Eduardo Muriel, and his employee, plus narrator of this tale, Juan de Vere--are a fascinating duo, even though I don't know much about them yet. feels like a wonderful book, if the early stages are a reliable indication. and even though I'm trusting a translation, I love this author's style with every paragraph.
