A Spy In Canaan - Marc Perrusquia

Ernest Withers managed to pass the tests and interviews, to become one of the first African-American police officers in Memphis, which reminds me a bit of the novel Darktown I read earlier this year - although that book dealt with officers sworn in in Atlanta. sounds like work conditions were just as problematic (racist and unfair) - like in Atlanta, Ernest and company could not arrest white suspects...just detain, until a white police officer arrived. oh gosh.


heading towards the section detailing how and when Ernest became a successful professional photographer. and how he linked up with the FBI, presumably...
